Notes from the resume writers’ front:
Resume writers are creative, stay abreast of changing trends, and make good subtle use, where appropriate, of colors and graphics.
In contrast, a recruiter’s perspective is: “Make it easy for me to understand your fit for the role via your work experience, be truthful, don’t be sloppy and please be brief!”
From first-hand experience, we know that, unless you are in a professional arena that demands artistic creativity, e.g. marketing or graphic design, resumes should be conservative. Too much “art” in a resume can be distracting or worse yet, advertise a smoking “hired” gun.
At Career Forward, we aim for the right balance between “art,” relevancy, authenticity, impact and function.
